Former Middle Tennessee defensive lineman Trevor Jenkins signed to play for the NFC East Philadelphia Eagles.

Defensive lineman Trevor Jenkins signed a free agent contract on Wednesday. Just hours after signing with the Philadelphia Eagles, Jenkins sat down for a Q & A session with BlueRaiderZone.com.

BRZ: Congratulations on your recent signing with the Philadelphia Eagles? As recently as Tuesday you were attending classes at Middle Tennessee State, so how did the signing come about?
Trevor: I actually was ready to close that chapter of my life. My main agenda was to graduate at the end of June and prepare for seminary in August. I was in my accounting class when my phone went off. I looked to see who was calling, and it was the Philadelphia Eagles. I answered, and someone asked to speak to Trevor Jenkins. I said, "This is he!" He asked me if I was healthy. In response I said, " As healthy as can be." Then he said, " Well we're putting you on a plane tonight to Philly." And the next morning I signed my first professional contract. Oh how Christ works in mysterious ways.

BRZ: It appears your summer schedule has now changed. What does your schedule look like with OTAs and training camp?
Trevor: I'm going to be in OTA's (Organized Team Activities) at least until mid June. The next week is for rookies and selected veterans. Then, the last week the entire team reports.

BRZ: What is a typical day during the OTAs?
Trevor: Breakfast. Meetings, meetings, and more meetings. Special teams practice before practice. Off to practice for an hour and a half. Special teams practice at the end of practice. A lot of players still stay out on the field after practice to work on things they need to improve on. Not all, but a good number of them. After practice is workouts, then off to the training room to get into the whirlpool for 30 mins. End the day off with lunch.

BRZ: How do you feel you fit into the defensive scheme of the Eagles? What strengths do you bring to the team and what areas do you feel you need to improve?
Trevor: My main goal is to be coachable. If your coachable, they will find a place for you. In regards to the strength I can contribute to this team, I believe my strength on this team is my character and faith in Christ which is far greater than any pass rush move I have. The skill I must work on is using my hands more effectively. My defensive line coach, Les Herrin would always preach to us how the NFL is a hands game and every bit of his sermon has been true.

BRZ: What did you learn playing at Middle Tennessee that will feel will most help you on the professional level?
Trevor: Middle Tennessee is so underrated. We have such a pro-style Offense and Defense, with an exceptional staff led by Rick Stockstill. The greatest things I learned from Middle Tennessee is how to look professional, be professional, and treat people first class. These things already have made the difference in my professional career.

BRZ: Has it sunk in that you are now a player in the NFL? How does it feel?
Trevor: I feel humbled. I have the opportunity to represent my university, teammates, coaches, community, high school, and parents. But most of all, I get to represent the Kings of Kings. Christ! It doesn't get any better.

BRZ: What plans do you have to further your education?
Trevor: I plan to attend seminary in due time. This is always been my passion. I heard a older woman say the other day, "If you continue to read, your always furthering your education." For now that will have to suffice.

BRZ: What is your best memory/game as a Blue Raider?
Trevor: My final home game vs. North Texas. Everyone I love was there.

Jenkins finished his career by starting in 37 straight games and his 47 career games played is the most of any Blue Raider in the FBS era.

Jenkins had 26 tackles last year to go with 5.5 tackles for loss and a sack. Jenkins was a 2nd team All-Sun Belt selection and was also voted the Middle Tennessee Student-Athlete of the Year.
