If Amber Holt is the question then LSU didn't have the answer. Holt lead the way as the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders upset #8 LSU Tigers, 67-56, in front of an announced crowd of 7,858.
Friday's game marked the 2nd time in as many years that the unranked Lady Raiders upset the #8 team in the nation. Last year the Lady Raiders went on the road to upset #8 Georgia.
Holt poured in 41 points and at one point in the 2nd half Holt had scored more points than the entire LSU team. Holt seemed unstoppable in the paint and LSU showed definite signs of missing their All-American Sylvia Fowles who is out with a knee injury.
Holt, the nation's 2nd leading scorer (and possibly the top scorer after Friday's performance), played on a mission. Many speculated that she may have felt snubbed after being left of of the Naismith Watch list earlier in the week.
The majority of the game was very close until Brandi Brown and Chelsia Lymons hit back to back 3 pointers to put the Raider up by 8. The Lady Raiders extended that lead to 10. The Tigers came marching back and took a one point lead with 4:34 remaining on a 3 pointer by Quianna Chaney. The lead didn't last long as Brandi Brown hit a 3 pointer to put the Lady Raiders up for good.
Holt was joined in the scoring by Brown who had 8 points, and Johnna Abney and Starr Orr who contributed 5 points apieace. Emily Queen played one of her best games, collecting 12 rebounds, with 10 of those coming in the first half.
The Lady Raiders will next face Louisville on the road, Sunday afternoon at 2:00.
