Middle Tennessee hands the Sun Belt leader, Louisiana-Monroe, their second loss in conference play.
Murfreesboro, TN-
The MTSU Blue Raiders (14-16, 7-4) made the most of their 25 hits on Saturday, scoring 21 runs. They also held the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks (19-9, 9-2) potent offense in check, allowing only 7 runs on 17 hits. The loss was only the second loss for the Warhawks in Sun Belt conference play.
The Blue Raider fireworks started early and fired often. After holding the Warhawks scoreless in the top of the first the Blue Raider scored a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning. The first came of a
Myles Ervin
home run and the second was scored by
Adam Warren
when Matt Campbell doubled down the left field line.
The second inning was when the Blue Raiders really began to get the offense going. In the top of the 2nd Warhawk catcher Josh Morrison belted a home run off Blue Raider starter
Brad Robinson
. The Blue Raiders anwsered by scoring 5 runs in the bottom half of the inning. The highlight of the inning was back-to-back homers by
Rawley Bishop
and Matt Campbell, While Campbell's was a solo shot, Bishop's homer plated 3 runs. From that point the Blue Raiders took control of the game, scoring in six of the eight innings.
Blue Raider ace Brad Robinson went 7 1/3 innings and was credited with the win. The loss was suffered by Kye Wilson.
The two team will face off on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Reese Smith Field. The Blue Raiders have not dropped a Sun Belt series this year and will be trying to keep this streak intact.
