Monroe,La.- Sophomore QB Terrance Broadway threw for 373 yards on 23-of-32 passing and four touchdowns and rushed 14 times for 87 yards in leading Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns to a 40-24 victory Saturday afternoon in Malone Stadium.
The Ragin' Cajuns (5-3, 3-2) climbed back from a 10-7 deficit with consecutive touchdown passes by Broadway. The first was a 52-yard pass to
Jamal Robinson
and the latter was a 23-yarder to
Harry Peoples
that put Louisiana up 21-10.
Louisiana-Monroe's
Cody Wells
responded by hitting Je'Ron Hamm for a 19-yard TD with 48 seconds left before the half, but the Warhawks (6-3, 4-1) got no closer as Broadway stretched the lead to 28-17 with an 8-yard TD run midway through the third quarter.
At the break, the Cajuns held onto a 21-17 lead. ULL outgained
ULM
311 to 259 and collected 14 first downs to ULM's 10.
In the second half UL regained its early momentum as Broadway kept around the end for an eight-yard touchdown to give UL a 28-17 with 6:36 left in the third quarter. The touchdown capped a 12-play, 87-yard and 6:26 drive.
An interception from
Rodney Gillis
gave possession back to the Cajuns with 5:27 left in the third quarter. A stop on third down forced a 4th & 2 for the Cajuns and elected to go for it. Broadway pass was tipped and fell incomplete.
After being pinned down at the one-yard line from a ULM punt, the Cajuns would begin a 17-play, 99-yard drive that ended with a one-yard touchdown pass to
Jacob Maxwell
from Broadway to give UL the 34-17 lead.
Brett Baer
would miss the extra point afterwards with 5:47 left in the contest.
ULM QB Cody Wells lead the Warhawks offense on a seven-play, 74-yard scroing drive, finding WR Brent Leonard on a 22-yard touchdown with 4:30 left in the game to close the score at 34-24.
ULM's onside kick was not recovered and UL took over at the Warhawks 39-yard line.
After a Jemarlous Moten interception on ULM's last possession,
Terrance Broadway
would find Jamal Robinson streaking down the field on an 81-yards touchdown pass with time running out in the game.
The Cajuns will travel down to Gainesville,
Florida
next Saturday to face the Gators in the Swamp.
