"I am committed to Indiana," said 2013 CB Rashard Fant. "[The determining factor] was really just the love that Indiana shows me. I had other schools recruiting me, but the recruitment from Indiana was so much harder."

The three-star cornerback out of Our Lady of Mercy High School (GA) chose the Hoosiers over Florida State University.

"They really made me feel wanted," Fant said of his decision. "They want me to come in and help change the program; they told me I could even become the face of the program.

"We could work together and change the environment of football in Indiana," Fant explained. "We could put Indiana on the map."

As for other factors in Fant's decision, "The alumni association and the academic programs sold me as well."

Although Fant did not publicly announce his decision until Wednesday, he verbally committed to Indiana on Tuesday evening.

"I called [Cornerbacks Coach] Brandon Shelby last night," Fant explained. "I told them I wanted to commit. They were so excited. It was like Christmas morning.

"Today after practice, I told [Head Coach] Kevin Wilson and he said it was more like a birthday present," Fant said. "It was his birthday yesterday and I didn't even know. He's very excited."

Fant boasts a handful of offers from major collegiate programs, but is "set on Indiana." He will, however, follow through with his official visit to Utah.

"I may take another visit to Utah just because I made a prior commitment to visit and have a great respect for the program," Fant explained. "[Head Coach] Kyle Whittingham has been very diligent in recruiting me. I want to go meet him in person. I have a great respect for him. I will keep his number in my phone; I know I can call him if I ever need anything or have any questions."

With his commitment made, Fant is focused on the future of Hoosier football.

"[What I'll bring to the Hoosier field] is a person that is determined to be the best everyday," Fant said. "I'll step out on to the field and try to be the best player in the Big Ten. I expect a lot out of myself. I expect to be one of the most dominant players in the Big Ten.

"I want to get to a good bowl game our first year and continue getting better and better each of my four years," Fant continued. "I'll strive for a National Championship while I'm there."

Fant has not yet scheduled his official visit to Indiana, but plans to make the trip the first of December.

As for his message to the Hoosiers?

"I'm going to come ready to play," Fant said. "We're going to get this thing turned around. It might take awhile, being a young team, but the class of 2013 will be the class to remember.

"When people think of Indiana, they'll think of football first."
