Erdely gets the 2013 class started

It's the time of year when high school prospects all over the country flock to camp after camp hoping to turn brilliant performances into mailboxes full of offers. That process was short lived for Georgia quarterback AJ Erdely, who recently became the first commitment in the Blue Raiders' 2013 class.

"I've only been to Middle Tennessee and I decided that it was the only one I want to do," A.J. Erdely says of his shortened camp experience.

The 6-3, 205 lb. prospect was apparently wowed by what he saw during his recent stay and decided to commit right then and there. That's quite a compliment to the Blue Raider program, as the talented Erdely also held offers from South Alabama, Georgia State, Jacksonville State, Buffalo and Marshall.

It's easy to see why programs are high on the strong-armed signal caller. He led his team to the Elite 8 last season, doing so in the highest competitive division in the talent-rich state of Georgia. AJ managed to rack up over 1600 yards through the air and another 500 plus on the ground on his way to a final record of 11-2 on the season.

"They've just been saying everything perfect during the whole process," AJ says of his decision to go ahead and pull the trigger. "Once I got up there, I saw how pretty it was and I just knew that's where I wanted to be."

Erdely says he's been in touch with offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner the most during the recruiting process, saying that Coach Faulkner came down to visit him during Spring and that it was him who gave AJ the tour of the campus. He's also spoken with head coach Rick Stockstill a couple of times in recent weeks.

The relationships between AJ and the staff seems to be so strong that not only is the rising senior done on the camp circuit, he's also winding down the recruiting process as a whole.

"I'm not going to go out of my way to try to impress anybody because I feel like I found my place," he says of his committed status.

Knowing where he's headed will afford Erdely the opportunity to focus on his goal of taking his Wolverine squad to the 6A Georgia state championship in 2012.
